We know about the drawer.

We know about the drawer.

You know the one. It's the drawer that won't quite close. Inside are three dead ink cartridges, a cable for a phone you don't own any more, a stapler with no staples and at least one takeaway menu from a place that shut down years ago.

Nobody is judging you. Every home and office in Australia has one. But it's spring, and that drawer has been quietly waiting for its moment. This is it.

Here's how to clear it out, restock it properly and maybe sort out the printer while you're at it.

Step 1: Empty it

Start with the cartridges. Old ink and toner cartridges don't belong in the bin, and they definitely don't belong in the drawer for another year.

Bag them up and bring them into any of our 120+ Cartridge World stores. We recycle most major brands, even the ones that have been rattling around since 2019. You don't need to sort them or know what they are. Just drop them off, and we'll take it from there.

While you're at it, the cable for the phone you don't own can go too. We can't help with that one, but we believe in you.

Step 2: Restock it

Now for the bit that actually saves you money.

Cartridge World brand ink and toner costs up to 30% less than equivalent OEM cartridges.^ It's made to work in the printer you already have, so there's nothing to change except the price you pay.

A couple of popular picks to start with:

Cartridge World HP #804XL Black Ink Cartridge, $57.95
A high-yield black for HP ENVY and HP ENVY Inspire home printers. It covers the school notes, the boarding passes and the forms you swore you'd fill out online.

Cartridge World HP 206A Black Toner Cartridge, $104.95
For HP Color LaserJet Pro owners who print more than they'd like to admit. It's dependable and good value, and your wallet will notice the difference. Your printer won't.

Not sure which cartridge fits? Bring in your printer's model number, or just the empty cartridge from the drawer, and your local store will match it for you.

Step 3: Upgrade it

Sometimes the drawer isn't the problem. Sometimes it's the printer.

You might need an upgrade if any of these sound familiar:

  • It's been saying "low ink" since June, and you've stopped believing it.
  • You print everything in draft mode, just to be safe.
  • You've shaken a cartridge like a Polaroid photo. Twice.
  • You've perfected the paper jam dance.

Three or more? It's time.

If you're ready to start fresh, the Brother MFC-L8930CDW Colour Laser Multifunction Printer, $1,055.00 is built for busy homes and small offices that need fast, sharp colour. It prints, scans, copies and faxes without the drama.

Buy any printer over $200 in store and we'll throw in a free ream of A4 paper.* That's 500 sheets for the drawer, which is a much better thing to keep in there than dead cartridges.

"Refill the drawer." Properly this time.

Quick clarification: we don't do refills. We sell fresh Cartridge World brand stock that costs less, along with genuine cartridges from all the major brands.

Still prefer the originals? That's OK, we offer them too. Shop genuine ink and toner here.
